Several Graceland students represented the University at the Iowa Choral Directions Association Intercollegiate Honor Choir in February.

Graceland University students were named as award winners in the Department of Art Annual 2020 Juried Student Art Exhibition. The Graceland juried exhibition consists of artwork submitted by students in designated categories. It is judged by an individual or panel, according to certain measures. Graceland students entered works in one of three categories: two dimensional art, sculpture and graphic design.

Graceland University theatre students earned roles in "Chicago" under the direction of Graceland Associate Professor of Theatre Tracy Salter. "Set in the legendary city during the roaring 'jazz hot' 20s, Chicago tells the story of two rival vaudevillian murderesses locked up in Cook County Jail." -Broadway.com

Graceland University Theatre students earned roles in "The Importance of Being Earnest, A Trivial Comedy for Serious People," under the direction of Graceland Associate Professor of Theatre Tracy Salter. "The Importance of Being Earnest..." was originally written as a comedy of wit and character satirizing the Victorian British class system and social pretenses. This performance was an updated approach to the production, which comments on a still prevalent class system and the values that support it.

Graceland University Theater students earned roles in "Macbeth," one of Shakespeare's darkest tragedies, under the direction of Graceland Associate Professor of Threatre, Tracy Salter, MFA.

Two Graceland University students were recognized for their acting talent and selected to move on to the semifinals of the 2019 Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) Region 5 Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship competition. The Irene Ryan Acting Scholarships provide recognition, honor and financial assistance to outstanding student performers wishing to pursue further education.

Graceland University music majors spent four days representing the university in a national-level collegiate band in Tempe, Arizona, this February. The event was held during the College Band Directors National Association National Conference. The students were required to audition for their parts on their first day and perform a full length concert on the fourth day. The trip was sponsored through a grant disbursed from the Maxwell Performing Arts Music Endowment, which allows students to travel for professional development opportunities.

Graceland University Theater students earned roles in "The 39 Steps," a comedy spoof of Alfred Hitchcock's 1935 movie of the same name and of British detective plot productions in general.

Graceland University students have been selected to play in the Iowa Collegiate Honor Band (ICHB) Nov. 16-17. These students will have the opportunity to work with musicians from colleges and universities all over Iowa and will perform a concert as the finale Nov. 17.

Haley Johnson, assisted by Andrew Dipoto, is the winner of the Irene Ryan Scholarship Contest - first nationally of over 2,000 contestants! Haley also won an internship with the National New Play Network and is the co-winner of the Mark Twain Comic Performance Award.
