Graceland University

The Graceland University Distinguished Leadership Award is awarded to students from each division/school who have most enriched the Graceland community and have shown exemplary leadership through their superior skills, talents and dedication.

The Student Life Award is given to a graduating senior who has made significant contributions to multiple areas of the university community during their student experience. This award is recognition of qualities that include leadership, excellent academic record and respect by students, faculty and staff.

Graduates from 43 states plus the District of Columbia and 10 countries earned 605 degrees. There were 377 bachelor's degrees earned, 227 master's degrees, and 1 Doctor of Nursing Practice degree earned by Graceland graduates. We congratulate all graduates on their accomplishments and offer our best wishes for success in the future!

Graceland University students participated in mentoring first-year students during the Spring 2017 semester. Peer mentors provided essential support and leadership to the Graceland University incoming class throughout the 2016-17 academic year. Peer mentors were dedicated to building relationships with their students, and they collaborated to design an even more robust program for the upcoming school year.

Graceland University student-athletes were recognized at the annual athletic banquet as outstanding contributors to Graceland University Athletics during the 2016-17 seasons.

Graceland University Men's Basketball's Jeremy Deemer received All-American Honorable Mention recognition from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

Graceland University Women's Basketball's Sydney Vaughn received All-American Honorable Mention recognition from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). It is the second time in her career to garner the honor - she also earned it following the 2014-15 season.

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) named four Graceland University competitive cheer student-athletes 2016-17 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

Graceland University Track and Field's Cedric Shell earned his ticket to nationals at the Cornell Invite on Jan. 21, where he solidified his place with a mark of 14.19 m in the triple jump. That jump placed him at 16th in the nation entering the competition. Shell proceeded to bust out his best jump of the season on his first attempt at nationals, soaring 14.47 m. That jump would hold its place through all six rounds of jumps and earn Shell All-American status with a fourth place final result.

Three Graceland University Men's Basketball players garnered All-Conference honors from the Heart of America Athletic Conference for their performance on the court this year.

Cartland Allen punched his ticket to the NAIA National Tournament in Topeka, Kan., on March 4-5 with his third place finished in the Central Region Qualifier. Allen led three total players who marked top six finishes.

Two members of the Graceland University Women's Basketball team received recognition from the Heart of America Athletic Conference for their performance on the court this season.

Jeremy Deemer was named to the 2016-17 Academic All-America College Division Men's Basketball Team, as released by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Graceland University students are among the official qualifiers for the 2017 NAIA Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field National Championships. The 52nd annual men's and 37th annual women's events will take place March 2-4 in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Graceland University students participated in mentoring first-time freshmen during the Fall 2016 semester. Peer mentors spent over 10 hours training before welcoming students in INTD1100-Critical Thinking in the Liberal Arts and Sciences. Fall 2016 peer mentors provided essential support and leadership to the Graceland University incoming class throughout the entire semester.

The newly elected students will take office at the start of the fall semester 2017 as an integral part of the vibrant Graceland University student leadership community. Students serving in GSG roles gain valuable leadership experience and become a respected voice for the Graceland student body.

Phi Alpha Theta, founded in 1921, is the National History Honor Society for four-year colleges and universities. Graceland University has had an active chapter since 1967 and is pleased to recognize our new members.

Graceland University students earned roles in the Graceland Theatre Department's spring production of "W;t," with professional guest artist, Jody Hovland.

Graceland University track and field competed at the 2017 Heart Conference Championships over the weekend of Feb. 11, where several student athletes received All-Conference recognition over 20 events.

Graceland University Softball junior Breanna Fortune was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week Feb. 13.
